Faculty Member, Judaic Studies
About
My current research is centered primarily on three projects:
1. A synthetic history of Jews during the Second Temple period (with some fuzzy borders on both sides), focused on the question "how the Bible became holy" (the tentative title of the book);
2. A study of Jewish piety during late antiquity. If Jews were not adhering to rabbinic norms, what were they doing?
3. An internet corpus of inscriptions from Israel/Palestine from the Persian period to 640 CE.
I also have side projects in the works dealing with issues of pedagogy, method and theory in the study of religion, and the Jewish calendar in early America.
